About the Event

Ice Follies is a biennial festival of contemporary and community-engaged art, taking place February 7-21, 2024, on frozen Lake Nipissing. Audiences are invited to interact with installations along the North Bay waterfront and shores of Nipissing First Nation. This festival is presented by a collective representing three artist-run centers from the Nipissing area, highlighting contemporary visual, Indigenous, performance, media, and community-engaged art.

Job Overview

This role involves the installation and management of AV, electrical, and power infrastructure for the festival, along with providing assistance to artists and curators for project installations.

Note: this contract includes weekend and evening hours in the week leading up to the launch of the event.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Experience in outdoor AV and lighting installations
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and power supply management
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with winter outdoor events
  • Appropriate winter gear for -30°C conditions

Key Skills and Capabilities:

  • Installation and maintenance of electrical systems for outdoor settings.
  • Proficiency with AV, sound, and electrical equipment setup.
  • Organizational, planning, and communication expertise.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Adaptability to challenges in high-pressure settings.
  • Previous experience in outdoor/winter event production.

Responsibilities:

  • Power Infrastructure: Design and implement the power distribution plan for event projects.
  • Equipment Management: Secure necessary equipment and maintain budget alignment for technical elements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate with authorities and providers regarding public space use and requirements.
  • Technical Scheduling: Delegate tasks and coordinate with volunteers and contractors to meet timelines.
  • Weatherproofing: Ensure all electrical setups are durable and safe from weather impact.
  • Health & Safety: Work with the team to meet festival safety standards.
  • Monitoring & Updates: Provide regular updates on progress and resolve any issues impacting festival activities.
  • Festival Operations: Oversee power provision, pack-out, and site restoration post-event.
  • Communication: Respond to emails, calls, and artist inquiries promptly.
  • Reporting: Submit a final report covering all areas of responsibility.
