Call for Participants for Ice Follies 2025!
The Near North Mobile Media Lab is excited to host a unique creation opportunity led by renowned sound artist and NAISA Artistic Director Darren Copeland. Participants will have the chance to explore the fascinating process of recording the sounds of ice on Lake Nipissing in North Bay.
Darren will guide participants in composing a pre-recorded audio piece utilizing these natural sounds, along with any additional texts or sounds, all inspired by the Ice Follies 2025 theme: “The Ice is Slippery.”
Important Details:
- Equipment Provided: All necessary recording equipment will be supplied for the sessions.
- Experience Level: All levels of experience are welcome to join this creative endeavor.
- Limited Participation: Participation is limited to 5 persons to ensure an intimate and engaging experience.
- Honorarium: Participants who complete their audio pieces will receive a $300 presentation honorarium.
Meeting Schedule:
- Meeting Times: Sessions will be held from 1 PM to 4 PM on the following dates:
- December 7, 2024
- January 11, 2025
- January 18, 2025
- January 25, 2025
- Location: All meetings will take place at the Near North Mobile Media Lab office, located at 205-269 Main Street West, North Bay. Some of these sessions will include recording sounds on Lake Nipissing.
Presentation of Completed Pieces:
The finished compositions will be showcased during a listening party at the Ice Follies 2025 event in February 2025. Additionally, the pieces will be made available for online listening.
