About Ice Follies
Ice Follies is a biennial festival that celebrates contemporary and community-engaged art. Set against the stunning backdrop of frozen Lake Nipissing, this unique event invites audiences to explore an array of artistic works off the shores of North Bay and the Nipissing First Nation. Organized by artist-run centers in the Nipissing area, Ice Follies spans the fields of contemporary visual arts, Indigenous arts, community arts, performance, media arts, and community engagement. This unique festival is free to the public, allowing open access 24 hours a day from February 7 to February 21, 2025.
Position: Festival Coordinator
Ice Follies is seeking a dynamic and passionate Festival Coordinator intern to join our team. This role offers a rich exposure to various key duties, including logistical planning, community engagement, artist liaison, and much more. It’s an exceptional opportunity for those looking to make a significant impact in the art world while gaining hands-on experience in festival management.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Engagement: Engage with local businesses, community groups, and educational institutions to organize outreach programs, workshops, and tours.
- Promotion and Marketing: Support the implementation of marketing strategies, leveraging various media platforms to enhance festival visibility and engagement.
- Budget Management: Assist in securing sponsorships, negotiating contracts, and tracking expenses, under the guidance of the Executive Director.
- Volunteer Management: Oversee the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers, ensuring effective communication and a positive environment.
- Installation Coordination: Work closely with the Technical Coordinator to facilitate the on-site installation process, supporting artists in bringing their visions to life.
- Event Coordination: Ensure smooth operations during the festival, managing volunteers, troubleshooting issues, and interfacing with artists, visitors, and stakeholders
Qualifications
- Experience in event planning, community engagement, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Passion for contemporary and community-engaged art.
- Willingness to work outdoors in winter conditions.
- be unemployed or underemployed youth (persons aged 30 and under);
- have graduated within the last three years with a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- have not previously participated as a youth intern in FedNor’s programs or in any other federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six months or more
